Penn State Researchers Make 3D Printing More Efficient with Five-Axis Fabrication
1/19/21
When you 3D print objects that have overhangs, supports are traditionally added to the print before the build begins, because the overhangs are not supported by anything below and your print will very likely be unsuccessful. But a lot of research has gone into finding a way to print parts with overhangs without having to rely on supports: it’s time-consuming to remove them, and, in the end, all you have is a lot of wasted material.

To prepare the industry’s next trailblazers, a new course in the Penn State Additive Manufacturing and Design (AMD) graduate program is seeking to address them head-on.
First World Campus degree in additive manufacturing and design awarded
12/14/18
Joseph Sinclair always knew he wanted to set the trends, not follow them. As the first graduate of the master of engineering in additive manufacturing and design master’s (AMD) program through Penn State World Campus, he’s staying true to that mission.
New graduate certificate in additive manufacturing offered at Penn State
11/12/18
Prompted by the incredible industry demand for trained experts in additive manufacturing and design for additive manufacturing, Penn State is offering a new graduate certificate in Additive Manufacturing and Design (AMD) through Penn State World Campus.
Additive Manufacturing program awards first degree
9/25/18
Introduced in 2017, the AMD program offers a one-year master of science in additive manufacturing and design (MSAMD) and master of engineering in additive manufacturing and design (MEngAMD), educating students and working engineers to become technically outstanding experts in additive manufacturing and design, both in residence at Penn State University Park or online via Penn State World Campus.
